Steel conical burrs, 40 grind settings
A burr grinder crushes beans between two cutting surfaces set at a fixed distance, so the particles come out even. Blade grinders chop at random and give dust and boulders in the same dose. The Duo uses hardened steel conical burrs on a double bearing, which keeps the shaft from wobbling. A numbered dial under the burr clicks through 40 positions, and you can return to a setting without guessing.
From espresso to French press
- Settings 4 to 9: espresso and moka pot.
- Settings 14 to 20: pour-over in a V60.
- Settings 21 to 26: batch filter and immersion brewers.
- Settings 30 to 36: French press and cold brew.
Grinding 15 g for a pour-over takes about 30 seconds of easy turning; 18 g for espresso takes closer to a minute. The catch cup holds 30 g, enough for two mugs.
A manual grinder for travel
The body is 15 cm tall, the crank folds off, and there is no cable or battery. It is quiet enough for an early start in a shared flat, a tent or a hotel room. A brush is included for cleaning the burrs; never wash them with water.
